»Chimaera« heißt der jüngste Geniestreich der Pianistin und Komponistin Sylvie Courvoisier. Die gebürtige Schweizerin lebt seit fast 30 Jahren in Brooklyn, wo sie inzwischen zu den Koryphäen des New Yorker Avantgarde-Jazz gehört. Für »Chimaera« hat sie ihr seit 2013 bestehendes Trio mit dem Schlagzeuger Kenny Wollesen und dem Bassisten Drew Gress zu einer ungewöhnlichen All-Star-Besetzung erweitert, mit der sie sich in einen mitreißenden Trance-Zustand spielt.
Inspiriert von Gemälden des französischen Malers Odilon Redon, die Courvoisier als »Universum aus Symbolen, Träumen und Fantasie« beschreibt, transformiert Chimaera die betörende Stimmung der Bilder in Musik. Courvoisiers unbändige Kreativität erzeugt im Zusammenspiel mit den sphärischen Klängen von Kenny Wollesens Vibraphon, das von Nasheet Waits am Schlagzeug aufgefangen wird, den Effekten des Gitarristen und Elektronik-Künstlers Christian Fennesz und der Trompete von Nate Wooley eine schlafwandlerische Atmosphäre, in der jederzeit alles passieren kann.
Mit ihrem experimentellen Sound und ihrer scheinbar endlosen Kreativität ist Sylvie Courvoisier eine der gefragtesten Pianist:innen überhaupt. Andere Projekte brachten sie mit den Gitarrist:innen Mary Halvorson und John Zorn, der Trompeten-Legende Wadada Leo Smith, den Bassisten Scott Colley und Thomas Morgen, dem Schlagzeuger Thomas Fujiwara, dem Cellist Erik Friedlander und dem Jazz-Geiger Mark Feldman zusammen. Mit ihrem Trio und Mary Halvorsons Band »Code Girl« war sie bereits mehrfach in Hamburg zu erleben.

We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
