All-rounder on the organ

The Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall is the stage dedicated to the Rising Stars festival, at which the most exciting young stars of the classical music scene perform for Hamburg audiences each year. However, the organist Sebastian Heindl will be pulling out all the stops in the Grand Hall, as he demonstrates the versatility of his instrument with a virtuosic programme on the large concert organ there.

As a modern representative of the centuries-old Leipzig music tradition, Heindl opens his programme with Bach. After warming up his fingers and the audience with the virtuosic cascades of the Toccata in F Major, he will be playing his way through a mini-panorama of organ music. In addition to the obligatory commissioned work for the Rising Stars, here by Moritz Eggert, Sebastian Heindl’s own compositions can also be heard. Then, as a rousing finale, Camille Saint-Säens’s »Danse macabre«, arranged for organ by Heindl himself – dance-like, grotesque and dizzyingly virtuosic.
