Übermütige Orchesterfurore

Cheerful, lively, dance-like – in hardly any other work does Ludwig van Beethoven appear as exuberant as in his Symphony No. 7. It sparkles, for no particular reason, with surprising ideas, cheerful melodies and infectious rhythms. Also, the orchestra leaves nothing to be desired regarding the sound with almost boisterously blaring horns and sonorous timpani. For conductor and composer Jörg Widmann, No. 7 is, therefore, a special event every time: »Beethoven unleashes a furore here, which still goes right through us today,« he marvels.
