An afternoon of Philipp Glass

In the middle of the nineties, Philip Glass started writing a series of etudes for piano. At first, the goal was to increase his own technical abilities as a concert pianist, and to expand his repertoire. Later, he wrote etudes to also develop his musical language as a composer. Glass’s hypnotic repetitive style is unmistakable here.

These 20 etudes were created over a period of 19 years. They include melancholic and sombre passages, as well as highly dynamic and contrasting moments.

Víkingur Òlafsson is Iceland’s up-and-coming star pianist, praised by critics in the highest possible way. This afternoon, he will present a selection from »The Complete Piano Etudes«. It is an encounter of an immensely talented young artist with pieces by one of the founders (and possibly the most famous representative) of minimal music. An indispensible concert experience for fans of piano music – and minimal music!
