Description

Ever since the age of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the piano quartet has been one of the ultimate disciplines in the field of chamber music. With Alina Ibragimova, Nils Mönkemeyer, Christian Poltéra and William Youn, four outstanding musicians have joined forces for this genre. They open their chamber concert in the Laeiszhalle Recital Hall with Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor, which is generally regarded as the first important work of its kind.

Brahms contributed no fewer than three works to the genre. The composer was unhappily in love with Clara Schumann when he wrote his Piano Quartet No. 3, and his state of mind is evident in the music.

The year after the Brahms was first performed, Gustav Mahler sat down to write a piano quartet aged only 16. He only completed a single movement, but this already shows the unique hand of the future composer of symphonies.
