Simply Strauss

»Rosenkavalier«, »Heldentanz« – the titles of Richard Strauss’s works are unusual, as conductor Andris Nelsons himself admits. But the music fulfils what the titles promise, supplying expressive sounds that elicit vivid images in the listener’s mind. – Something appreciated not only by fans of the composer’s works, but also by maestro Nelsons, who has returned time after time to Strauss’s oeuvre. This season, the Latvian conductor gives Hamburg music lovers four opportunities in the space of nine days to focus on Strauss. And he brings his two orchestras with him, both of which have certainly been infected by their chief conductor’s enthusiasm for this magnificent and sensuous music.
