Mankind has longed for peace throughout history, and numerous composers have expressed this vision in their works. Examples include the Amsterdam-based organist Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, who was active in the era of the religious wars, and the French-Swiss composer Frank Martin, who lived through both world wars.

Location

St. Nikolai am Klosterstern

The St. Nikolai church at Klosterstern in the Hamburg district of Harvestehude was officially opened in 1962 as a replacement for the old St. Nikolai on Hopfenmarkt: the original church suffered heavy war damage, and its ruin still stands as a memorial. In addition to regular services of worship, music at St. Nikolai revolves around performances of oratorios from the early baroque to the modern era.

  • Getting Here

  • Parking

A restricted number of parking spaces are located on the rear side of the church. There are currently no parking spaces for persons with disabilities.

  • Accessibility

The church and the neighbouring Neue Gemeindehaus (new parish hall) are fully accessible. The box office, located in the parish hall, is also accessible to persons with mobility disabilities. Here, an accessible restroom with support aids can be found.
