Play of opposites

Sergei Rachmaninov was only 19 years old when he presented the first movement from his first piano concerto as his composition exam in the Moscow Conservatory. Even back then, there is no doubt that he could impress his teachers with the core elements of his art – breath-taking virtuosity and rapturous musicality. A showpiece for Yuja Wang: her precise touch and technical brilliance allow her to perform the piano part with absolute freedom.
