Rise of a Populist

In his 1935 novel »It Can’t Happen Here«, Nobel prizewinner Sinclair Lewis depicts the ascent of an anti-hero whose rabble-rousing speeches excite millions of dissatisfied voters. Lies and populistic rhetoric get him elected as President of the United States. 85 years later, in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election, actor Charly Hübner reads extracts from a text that couldn’t be more relevant. He is accompanied by Max Andrzejewski, Kalle Kalima, Oliver Potratz and Johannes Schleiermacher playing jazz from the 1920s to the present day.
