Orient and Occident, modern jazz and tradition, the acoustic instrumentation and electronic club music, fierce swing and folk melodies: it is the contrasts that interest Isfar Sarabski - that he rubs up against, from which he creates his very own world of sound. Isfar Sarabski, who is revered like Quincy Jones in his home country of Azerbaijan, has been a well-known figure on the major jazz stages since winning first prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2009: As a pianist, composer and arranger, he mixes classical music, jazz and mugham, one of his country’s traditional musics. The trio of piano, double bass and drums is joined by the târ, a plucked instrument resembling a long-necked lute with a double body. A true invitation to travel!
