Description

»Do you love Brahms?« This question, from Françoise Sagan’s novel with the same title, has long been a dictum. Thomas Hengelbrock’s one-word answer to the question: Yes! »Even though performing Brahms in Hamburg is like selling snow to Eskimos,« he adds. But that does not stop him and so the finale of the 2nd Hamburg International Music Festival is dedicated the musical son and emblem of the Hanseatic city: Johannes Brahms.

The NDR Choir and eminent soloists, such as Carolin Widmann, James Boyd and the current NDR resident artist Alexander Longuich, dedicate themselves to Brahms’ multifaceted output in a four-hour soirée, during which selected chamber music and choir masterpieces can be heard alternately, in a lead-up to Sunday’s programme of all four of Brahms’ symphonies.
