Straight to the heart

Benjamin Appl is one of the most expressive singers of the young generation, and has been a household name among Hamburg song fans since October 2023, when he stepped in to sing Schumann’s »Dichterliebe« in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall as a replacement for the indisposed Matthias Goerne. The verdict was clear: »Breathtaking!« (Hamburger Abendblatt). Now he returns with this cycle and can unfold his »huge range of timbres« (Süddeutsche Zeitung) all the more effectively in the intimacy of the Recital Hall. At Appl’s side is his long-time piano partner and one of today’s most renowned song accompanists, James Baillieu.
