A solo voice and one accompanying instrument – who would have thought that this traditional form could give rise to such diversity in sound and style? With her »heavenly, dreamlike voice« (Süddeutsche Zeitung), Sarah Wegener performs a selection of predominantly Late Romantic songs on the theme of nature, while star Benjamin Appl, who »belongs to the last of the old great masters of song« (also Süddeutsche Zeitung), combines Schumann with Kurtág. Two concerts dispense completely with the conventional grand piano: Magdalena Kožená delves into the world of the Renaissance and the Early Baroque with gentle lute accompaniment, and Julian Prégardien and his accompanist Kristian Bezuidenhout on the fortepiano bring out completely new timbres in Schubert’s »Schöne Müllerin«.
