Democratic Baroque Spectacle

Six concerts with multiple instruments – what Johann Sebastian Bach grouped under this rather modest title is nothing less than a compendium of the Baroque instrumental concerto. Completely without a conductor, the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra presents the entire cycle of the Brandenburg Concertos and thus has free rein to offer the Hamburg audience a democratically organized Baroque spectacle in varying ensembles and with unrestrained virtuosity!

Playful duets of solo horns and recorders – trios of oboes, violins, and violas in heated competition – brilliantly showy solos from trumpet and transverse flute – the combined energy of the full tutti: all this and much more awaits the audience in the Great Hall of the Laeiszhalle!

The members of the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra have long been skilled at combining historically informed stylistic fidelity with highly energetic music-making in performances of music from a wide range of eras. This has already, on many occasions, led to storms of enthusiasm in the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle, and this concert evening will certainly fit seamlessly into the long series of moments of brilliance.
