Revolution on the keys

Anyone who wins the junior division of the legendary International Tchaikovsky Competition at the age of 13 is under special scrutiny. Ten years later, Alexander Malofeev continues to fulfil the expectations associated with this achievement with flying colours. Since then, the Russian, described by the Viennese daily paper Der Standard as a »world revolution at the piano«, has been awarded numerous other prizes and performed with the world’s leading orchestras. In 2022, he stood in for Evgeny Kissin with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. »The audience went wild with enthusiasm,« wrote the Frankfurter Rundschau. At the Elbphilharmonie, the 24-year-old is now devoting himself to both the great masters of Russian piano music and dark, enigmatic works from Northern Europe.
