2nd Hamburg International Music Festival
For more than 25 years now, Spanish harpsichordist and conductor Eduardo López Banzo and his ensemble Al Ayre Español have added delightful rarities to the repertoire of Baroque music. Handel in particular inspires him greatly.
»He knew how to enjoy life and his music truly reflects that joie de vivre,« says Eduardo López Banzo about Handel. This quality makes him exactly the right choice for the Hamburg International Music Festival, especially so since Handel worked at the Gänsemarkt Opera in Hamburg for several years. The concert includes, among others, a cantata for solo soprano following the example of Handel’s diligent Italian contemporary Alessandro Scarlatti, whose music will also be part of the evening. Scarlatti’s 800 cantatas are still uncharted territory for music explorers – and thus a perfect fit for Banzo and his ensemble.
