Description
»Classical« music is not an exclusively European phenomenon – it is found all over the earth, wherever advanced civilizations have developed sophisticated art forms. The »World Classical Music« series and thematic spotlights such as the Sufi Festival in November provide an opportunity to discover and enjoy these musical forms. Ancient sounds from Indonesia open the series. The second half of the season features songs by West-African bards and storytellers, as well as mugham music from Azerbaijan, which is improvised in accordance with strict rules, and which is included on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list.
