The Elbphilharmonie Organ
Titular organist Iveta Apkalna appears in a trio with vocals and accordion with a multi-faceted programme that ranges from classical to folk music. In addition, experience three exciting debut performances on the Elbphilharmonie organ
This season’s organ subscription series at the Elbphilharmonie features no less than three debuts: the German church musician Martin Schmeding focuses his attention on Mendelssohn and Reger, among others, drawing on his various CD releases. Zuzana Ferjenčíková, a student of Jean Guillou, is flying in from Slovakia to perform an impressive arrangement of Sergei Rachmaninov’s symphonic poem »The Isle of the Dead«, alongside works by her former teacher. And the American Paul Jacobs – the first organist ever to win a Grammy – takes on Olivier Messiaen’s gargantuan work »Livre du Saint Sacrement«. Our organist-in-residence, Iveta Apkalna, is of course part of the line-up too. She comes in a trio with vocals and accordion, performing a programme that straddles the worlds of classical and folk music and adds some interesting facets to the »Simply Organ« subscription.
