A traditional concert grand is a masterpiece of instrument making – with a total weight of up to 500 kgs with the 88 keys and around 230 steel wires, which exert a force of 20 tonnes on the cast-iron plate. Breathing unique-sounding life into such a grand instrument requires an absolute mastery of technique and a deep knowledge of the repertoire. This is an art mastered by all six of the »Master Pianists« featured in the series of the same name in the Laeiszhalle, including the well-established Sir András Schiff and Fazıl Say as well as young high-fliers Kit Armstrong and Jan Lisiecki.

Two exceptional Russian artists will also be performing: Grigory Sokolov and whiz kid Daniil Trifonov, about whom Martha Argerich once said: »What he does with his hands is technically incredible. It’s also his touch – he has tenderness and also the demonic element.«

These six piano recitals are complemented by two additional top-class concerts at the Elbphilharmonie featuring the grand masters Murray Perahia and Daniel Barenboim.

Please note that »Die Meisterpianisten« will appear on subscription cards.
