Description

As a broadly positioned »concert hall for everyone«, the Elbphilharmonie not only brings classical stars to the stage, but also the biggest names in jazz. With its exceptional acoustics and distinctive atmosphere, it provides the perfect setting this season for a series of outstanding concerts. In line with one of the season’s spotlights »USA 250«, an entire line-up of international top artists celebrates America’s quintessential musical form: jazz. Guitar heroes John Scofield and Julian Lage each appear with their quartets, both featuring organist John Medeski, who revives the unmistakable sound of the Hammond organ. Three-time Grammy Award winner Cécile McLorin Salvant brings her unique voice to the Laeiszhalle Grand Hall, while drummer Terri Lyne Carrington joins forces with singer Christie Dashiell to present a powerful reinterpretation of Max Roach’s 1960 album »We Insist! Freedom Now Suite« – a bold artistic statement on equality, tolerance and freedom, themes that have shaped both the United States and jazz then and now.

The jazz world celebrates another major anniversary in 2026: John Coltrane, one of the most influential saxophonists of all time, would have turned 100 in September. At the Elbphilharmonie, several all-star ensembles pay tribute, featuring artists such as Joe Lovano, Nduduzo Makhathini, Jeff »Tain« Watts, Branford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves. Ravi Coltrane, John Coltrane’s son and a distinguished saxophonist in his own right, joins the acclaimed harpist Brandee Younger for a tribute to his mother Alice – jazz harpist, pianist and visionary composer, who would have celebrated her 90th birthday in 2027.
