Elbphilharmonie for Connoisseurs 2

Epochal Works of the Modern Era, Top Interpreters

Previous EventNext Event

Charles Ives's »Concord Sonata«, composed in the early 20th century, was long regarded as unplayable. Complex, overlapping rhythms and metres make the 45-minute piece a true challenge for the performer, but it's a challenge that French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard is more than up to. Aimard opens the second subscription series for connoisseurs, which bundles together a selection of important works from recent music history. Olga Neuwirth, one of the leading composers of our time, transforms the Grand Hall into a whaling vessel out at sea in her work »The Outcast«, inspired by Herman Melville's famous novel »Moby Dick«. Clarinettist and composer Jörg Widmann winds up the series with an arrangement of the Mendelssohn Clarinet Sonata; Widmann, like Matthias Pintscher and his ensemble intercontemporain, forms part of the highly diverse programme of the Hamburg International Music Festival.

Please note that »Elbphilharmonie für Kenner 2« will appear on subscription cards.
