»Beethoven Around the world« was Quatuor Ébène’s motto when, a few years ago, it not only performed all of Ludwig van Beethoven’s string quartets on an extensive tour, but recorded them along the way. »The ensemble never takes Beethoven’s music for granted, but plays each quartet with the sense of wonder of a first encounter. As if the players themselves were still surprised by these works, as if they were not performing familiar pieces but sharing brand-new discoveries with the audience,« wrote Deutschlandfunk with enthusiasm.

To mark the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death, Quatuor Ébène now revisits the cycle. This time, the four musicians are not travelling the globe, but presenting all 16 of Beethoven’s string quartets in selected concert halls. The chamber music venues of the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle are, of course, part of the tour, where the acclaimed ensemble scales this summit of the quartet repertoire in six concerts.
