The Elbphilharmonie reopens for the 2020/21 season

At last – concerts again! An uplifting start to the new season – impressions and voices now on video.

After nearly six months of obligatory closure due to Corona, the Elbphilharmonie celebrated the resumption of concerts on 1 September 2020: with a safety concept in line with the highest standards, and beaming faces – on, in front of and behind the concert platform.

Video: We start again!

An exceptional evening

The Elbphilharmonie welcomed its first guests in the new season with a cleverly-devised hygiene and admission concept. Some 620 concertgoers enjoyed the sold-out concert given by the  NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, violinist Lisa Batiashvili and chief conductor Alan Gilbert: thanks to the restricted capacity of the seating plan, the audience had plenty of space.

After the one-hour programme, everyone was invited to stay in their seats while drinks were served, and to listen to the discussion between Alan Gilbert, Hamburg's senator for culture Dr. Carsten Brosda, NDR director Joachim Knuth and Christoph Lieben-Seutter, general and artistic director of the Elbphilharmonie. There was unanimous agreement that it was wonderful to experience live music again: the new season can carry on the way it started!

The Concert was broadcast live at the »Elbphilharmonie Concert Cinema« which took place from 15 August to 1 September on the forecourt of the Elbphilharmonie.
