As a true child of New York’s downtown scene, guitarist Marc Ribot has been playing there with youthful experimentation through the genres – from jazz via rock to noise – for over 40 years. The Reflektor Festival in November 2024 then provided Ribot with the opportunity to showcase several milestones of his creativity combined on one weekend for the first time: his current bands, including Ceramic Dog and Hurry Red Telephone, as well as projects such as Los Cubanos Postizos and Rootless Cosmopolitans reactivated especially for the Elbphilharmonie.
And so the weekend, during which several distinguished guests including saxophonist James Brandon Lewis and guitarist Mary Halvorson also collaborated, somehow resembled a big New York family reunion. The good vibe amongst the musicians was then also conveyed to the audience who danced the salsa between the rows of seats during the concert with »Los Cubanos Postizos« in the Grand Hall.
»»In the time before the Elbphilharmonie, perhaps no promoter would have attempted such a special festival. Now, it is not only a great success artistically, but also in terms of audience popularity. It can hardly get any better.««
