Avishai Cohen

Avishai Cohen / Big Vicious

Live from the Elbphilharmonie: the Israeli jazz trumpeter with his exuberant quintet Big Vicious. Available until 10 August 2022.

Video available until 10 August 2022.

We normally associate Avishai Cohen with long, soaring melodies gliding over gentle soundscapes. With his Big Vicious Quintet, the charismatic jazz trumpeter is now trying something a little different, pushing up the volume control into unfamiliar territory. Surrounded by two booming rock guitars and two percussionists, he retains his trademark enigmatic sound, but places it on a foundation of powerful beats. The resulting songs are at least as captivating as the ones performed by Avishai Cohen with his acoustic quartet. Big Vicious certainly has what it takes to become one of the most influential post-post-fusion bands of the 2020s. Their version of the Massive Attack classic »Teardrop« has become a huge hit on Spotify and elsewhere.
