Sir Simon Rattle is still one of the most popular figures on the classical music scene. He celebrated his 70th birthday at the beginning of the year, and in May he received the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, often dubbed the »Nobel Prize of Music«, as »one of the most important and influential conductors of our time«. The self-confessed Elbphilharmonie fan returns to the Hamburg three times this season. Once, of course, accompanied by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, whose chief conductor he has been since 2023, with a performance of Gustav Mahler’s bombastic »Resurrection Symphony«. Then again with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, with which the cosmopolitan British conductor has been closely associated for many years. And to kick things off, he shows once again how much he cares about working with young musicians – this time with the Venezuelan National Youth Orchestra.
