Mieczysław Weinberg
Spotlight to Mark the 100th Anniversary of the Polish Composer's Birth
Hardly any composer has been rediscovered in recent times with such lasting effect as Mieczysław Weinberg. For a long time, the Soviet composer with Polish-Jewish roots was overshadowed by his friend Dmitri Shostakovich. But following the spectacular world premiere of his opera »The Passenger« at the 2010 Bregenz Festival, 42 years after the score was completed, Weinberg has emerged from oblivion, and his music can be found more and more often on the programmes of concert halls across the world. The Elbphilharmonie devotes a spotlight to this composer, who would have turned 100 years old on 8 December 2019.
