The music of the American pianist and composer Uri Caine, who was born in 1956, hovers between concept and freedom, defined structure and the permanent questioning thereof. Caine was born in Baltimore, was raised immersed in the Jewish culture and language, and trained as a classical pianist. Now based in New York, he has worked with the living downtown legend John Zorn, and deconstructed Bach, Mahler, Beethoven and Mozart in provocative ways.
