Symphoniker Hamburg / Ion Marin
»Träume und Leidenschaften« / »Dreams and Passions«
Maurice Ravel’s »La Valse« is one of the most bizarre works in the history of classical music – an »apotheosis of the Viennese waltz«. Or would it be more accurate to call it its annihilation? Richard Strauss was also keen to produce a swansong with his hit opera »Der Rosenkavalier« – but a number of modernists railed against the sweeping sugariness, snidely calling the opera »Sklerosenkavalier«. In addition to that, the Symphoniker Hamburg present the unique sound of Scandinavia: Grieg’s catchy Piano Concerto, in a guest performance by the young Italian pianist Federico Colli, and a melancholic waltz experiment by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius.
