An entire requiem? For busy opera composer Giuseppe Verdi, this was out of the question: »A temptation that will pass like so many others«. Thus Verdi in 1871, after he had delivered his modest contribution to a requiem mass for the funeral of his colleague Rossini, in which several composers were involved. But it is a well-known fact that the only way to get rid of a temptation is to give in to it. Therefore, two years later, now motivated by the death of the revered poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni, he set about composing a full-scale requiem.
Please note: René Barbera will now sing the tenor role.
