Description

»Take good care of this: it’s my whole life.« With these words, in 1942, the artist Charlotte Salomon handed a friend a cycle of several hundred pictures (gouaches). A few months later the 26-year-old was dead – murdered as a Jew in Auschwitz. Now, around 100 years after her birth on 16 April 1917, this political, historical and cultural education project remembers the life and death of Charlotte Salomon, and thereby calls to mind the terrible yet typical fate of a young German Jew. At the same time, however, it also remembers the unique work of a promising painter who was forgotten for many years after her death.
