String quartet plus voice – a rare combination that comes together in an extraordinary way in this concert. The celebrated mezzo-soprano Anna Lucia Richter and the award-winning Schumann Quartet present a programme framed by romantic string quartets by Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. The centrepiece is Stefan Heucke's fantasy »Frei aber einsam«, which skilfully reworks love songs by Clara and Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. The programme is complemented by Aribert Reimann's impressive arrangements of Brahms' »Ophelia-Lieder«. This concert combines the expressive power of an outstanding voice with the sonority of a first-class string quartet to create a special musical experience.
