A Talent Showcase

Jan Lisiecki plays with remarkable composure, undisputed technical brilliance and striking clarity. He is an exceptional pianist who, at 31 years old, has already spent half his life touring concert halls worldwide. It is no coincidence that Lisiecki is playing music by Sergei Prokofiev, who possessed similar talent and courage and was already disrupting the established concert order in his early twenties. Prokofiev’s powerful and absurdly difficult Second Piano Concerto, with its artful combination of wildly expressive passages and deeply romantic moments, is a perfect showpiece for Lisiecki. He is joined on stage by his trusted companions from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, led by their principal conductor Vasily Petrenko. A true repertoire classic follows as the RPO devotes itself to Rachmaninov’s richly textured and sumptuously orchestrated Second Symphony.
