Description

What direction is the new national-conservative government taking Poland in, the country that quickly and successfully introduced democracy after 1989 and became an important partner in both the Europe and Nato? What part does Poland’s painful past play in its development today? And what is Poland’s future role in Europe? The Europe Commission has just instituted proceedings against Warsaw before the European Court of Justice on the grounds that compulsory retirement for judges constitutes another step towards undermining the rule of law. Serious accusations, which the Polish government dismisses as unfounded. The participants in tonight’s discussion are Polish journalist and book author Marta Kijowska, Polish journalist Janusz Tycner, and political scientist, contemporary historian and professor Klaus Ziemer. The podium discussion will be moderated by Claudia Spiewak, editor-in-chief at NDR Radio.
