Showpieces

The British cellist Steven Isserlis, one of the most sought-after performers in his field, was supposed to reunite with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra for a guest performance last season, but coronavirus restrictions made that impossible. The bustling musician famous for his curly hair now finally comes to Hamburg to perform the only German Romantic cello concerto that has gained a place in his core repertoire: Schumann’s great Cello Concerto in A Minor, Op. 129. Making his debut conducting the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra is the American Case Scaglione, who counts no less a figure than the orchestra’s chief conductor Alan Gilbert among his mentors.
