Description

The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra opens the 2019/20 season together with its new chief conductor Alan Gilbert. Who is the new man in charge of the orchestra? What does his artist’s heart beat for? What does he want to achieve? Alan Gilbert gives musical answers with six exciting and many-faceted programmes in eight concerts. At the opening night, the New York native with Japanese roots discovers his personal »musical continents« together with the orchestra and the audience, and lets these continents drift towards one another.

Please note: The mezzo-soprano Kelley O’Connor has regrettably been forced to cancel her appearance in this concert at short notice due to health reasons. Rinat Shaham steps in to sing the mezzo-soprano role in Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony No. 1 »Jeremiah«.
