Legendary British saxophonist Stan Sulzmann has been a hugely influential figure at the forefront of the British jazz scene for almost 50 years. He is regarded as one of the most original voices in jazz – both as a composer and improviser – and has been instrumental in every significant development of the music since the 1960s. His family has German roots and came to London’s East End from the Moselle region in the 19th century, where they set up a tailor’s shop in Savile Row.
