Description
In his hubris, Frankenstein, an ambitious young scientist, creates an artificial human being who mutates into a murderous monster and drives both of them to their deaths. Mary Shelley wrote this story in 1818 when she was only 19 years old. It is now firmly established as a classic of its genre, incorporating a vision of the future, a horror story, ethical reflection and a political statement at the same time. To mark the novel’s 200-year anniversary, the Hamburg-based composer Jan Dvořák and the film and opera director Philipp Stölzl from Berlin (»Der Medicus«, »Winnetou«) retell it as a gothic opera featuring nature sounds, shock effects and dark neo-romanticism.
