It’s not the first time that the charismatic head of the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico joins forces with the Basel Chamber Orchestra, whose principal guest conductor he is, to put on grand opera in the Elbphilharmonie. And »grand« here doesn’t mean pompous, but rather musical worked out down to the smallest detail. What is special about Antonini’s productions is the amazing transparency that he manages to exact from every score he tackles. And in Mozart’s »Così fan tutte«, too, he has an outstanding vocal ensemble at his disposal in 2023: among the soloists is Julia Kleiter as Fiordiligi, who already enthralled the audience at the 2016 Salzburg Festival »with a crystal-clear soprano, immaculate intonation and heartfelt expression«.
