Description

What a calling card! When Sir Simon Rattle mounts the conductor’s rostrum at the Elbphilharmonie for the first time in his new function as musical director of the London Symphony Orchestra, modern classics are on the programme. Béla Bartók’s virtuosic Concerto for Orchestra offers England’s leading orchestral ensemble every opportunity to show its mettle: travelling »through the darkness to the light«, the work covers a wide emotional range right up to the brilliant finale, while Alban Berg’s touching Violin Concerto gives the solo instrument plenty of space for expressive and sensitive playing. It goes without saying that Sir Simon Rattle has engaged one of today’s best violinists for the solo part, namely Isabelle Faust.
