The Wind and String Quintets of the Symphoniker Hamburg explore their romantic and expressive side with nineteenth-century works by Beethoven, Mussorgsky and Thieriot. Joachim Linckelmann’s arrangements of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture and of Modest Mussorgsky’s cycle »Pictures at an Exhibition« demonstrate perfectly that the symphonic character of late Classicism and Romanticism can also be wonderfully expressed through chamber music.
