Andachten

In addition to her work in the Opernstudio of the Berlin State Opera, Mazedonian-Canadian mezzosoprano Ema Nikolovska is also a passionate lieder singer. In the Elbphilharmonie she performed brilliantly in 2021 at the festival »Song of America: A Celebration of Black Music«, while in February 2022 she appeared alongside big names like Anna Prohaska and Florian Boesch in Schumann’s oratorio »Das Paradies und die Peri« in the Grand Hall. Now she can be heard with her first lieder recital in the Recital Hall.

In her programme »Andachten« (Devotions), she combines songs from very different eras which look at Man’s relationship to nature and to the modern world. The subjects here are the seasons, death and rebirth, and love – topics that Ms Nikolovska wants to illuminate in an atmosphere »of devotion, but in no way esoteric«.
