Since it will not be possible to hold concerts under normal conditions initially, only under strict hygiene restrictions and with a greatly reduced capacity, the promoter ProArte has decided to cancel the events scheduled for April, May and June 2021. Tickets for these concerts, with a hall plan adapted to the hygiene concept, will only go on sale again when it is possible to say with certainty at what point concerts can take place again.
Ticket returns: if you have individual tickets for this concert, please send them back to the promoter with the following form so that your refund can be arranged.
Franz Welser-Möst is a welcome guest at the Elbphilharmonie. He was supposed to appear in Hamburg again in October with the Cleveland Orchestra, whose chief conductor he is. The Vienna Philharmonic, on the other hand, is not led by a single pianist, but has been establishing close relationships with several conductors over the years. As an Austrian conductor of international standing, Welser-Möst has already put on several interesting programmes with what is probably the world's most famous orchestra.
For their guest appearance in Hamburg, they combine Franz Schubert and Richard Strauss. The Symphony No. 2, which Schubert wrote at the age of 17, is followed by the rarely-performed »Sinfonia domestica«, with which Strauss put up a musical memorial to his wife, his child and in particular to himself. There also exists a historic gramophone recording of this work: in February 1943, at the height of the Second World War, the Vienna Philharmonic recorded it with the composer himself conducting.
