There have always been highly talented artists in music history who created revolutionary new works but unfortunately had the misfortune of working at the same time as an even greater, more famous colleague who outshone them. The Argentine Eduardo Rovira, who died in 1980, was one such artist. As a virtuoso on the bandoneon (the Argentine accordion), bandleader, composer and arranger, he was a central figure in the Argentine tango revolution of the mid-20th century, always striving to renew tango artistically, combining it with other genres, especially classical music. But Rovira was not remembered for this – quite the opposite of his colleague, Astor Piazzolla, who was four years his senior. The Ensemble Sonico from Brussels has set itself the goal of making the music of Eduardo Rovira better known. Originally a quartet, it is now a ten-piece international tango ensemble. The focus on the music of Eduardo Rovira has remained over the years.
