Description

Even composers such as Mozart and Beethoven had to earn a living, and they engaged in all kinds of self-marketing to that end. One method was known as »Academies«, that is concerts they put on at their own expense and in which they presented their latest works. To mark the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, the Gürzenich Orchestra of Cologne applies this idea to our modern age and performs the composer’s works, alternating with new compositions and modern classics by John Cage, Helmut Lachenmann and Bernd Alois Zimmermann.
