Manifesto for freedom

The student protests in France in 1968, the assassination attempt on Andy Warhol in New York, and Jan Palach’s self-immolation in Prague the following year – what do all these events have in common with the distant Baroque age? In his music-theatre project »BAROCCO«, the Russian film and opera director Kirill Serebrennikov – »opera director of the year« and currently Artist in Residence at the Thalia Theater – transcends the centuries and highlights connections between the passion and fragility of people who rose up against established systems in different eras. »BAROCCO« is a manifesto for freedom and an artistic revolt against a world that threatens to suffocate on its own social constraints. A music-theatre synthesis of the arts, with opera, drama and dance.
