The night is assigned to Anna Meredith, who has already caused quite a stir in the composer and electronic music scenes. The British artist unites avant-garde orchestral sounds with hammering beats and crystal-clear pop singing. This doesn’t really fit in a single pigeonhole, but it sounds all the better as a result.
Anna Meredith studied composition in New York and at London’s Royal College of Music. She became widely-known with her BBC commission for the Last Night of the Proms in 2008, »froms«. In addition to another work commissioned for the Proms, she has since written her first opera and a work for orchestra and beat-box. March 2016 saw the release of Meredith’s debut album »Varmints«. Her individual style, featuring elements of classical and electronic music as well as lot of experimental material, produces music of a kind never heard before.
