Phoenix from the ashes

Burning for something or being burnt up by it; soaring aloft on the wings of freedom or hanging in the air with nothing to hold on to? Everything has two sides, thus the associations with »fire« and »bird«. In their programme »Firebird«, percussionist Alexej Gerassimez and jazz pianist Omer Klein move between these two extremes. The inspiration and basic material for their own compositions comes from one of the most complex works in the history of music: Stravinsky’s »Firebird« spreads its shimmering wings anew and plunges like the phoenix rising from the ashes into a musical adventure full of lightness and passion. It flies into chaos – and back again.
