A traditional concert grand is a masterpiece of instrument making – with a total weight of up to 500 kgs, with 88 keys and around 230 steel wires, which exert a force of 20 tonnes on the cast-iron plate. Breathing unique-sounding life into such a grand instrument requires an absolute mastery of technique and a deep knowledge of the repertoire. This is an art mastered by all six of the »Master Pianists« featured in the series of the same name at the Laeiszhalle.
