Arias by Georg Friedrich Händel
Prima Donnas Onstage in Hamburg
The term »belcanto« could have been coined specially to describe Juan Diego Flórez’s art: With his powerful timbre and the distinctive melting in the tenor voice, Flórez transcends all the superlatives of »beautiful singing«. The son of a Peruvian folk singer is performing an evening of Mozart arias and Italian belcanto at the Elbphilharmonie – and he thereby stands as a representative for all the artists of the four-part »Grand Voices« series.
The series kicks off in November with countertenor Philippe Jaroussky, whose divine voice featured in the Elbphilharmonie’s opening concerts and who now performs Handel’s virtuosic arias.
At times tongue-in-cheek, flirtatious and passionate, at other times cautious and shy – superstars Diana Damrau and Jonas Kaufmann enter into a multi-faceted musical love affair in Hugo Wolf’s »Italian Songbook«.
To close the series, the American diva Joyce DiDonato brings heroes and military leaders such as Dido, Rinaldo, Caesar and Cleopatra back to life in her new programme »In War and Peace«.
Please note that »Große Stimmen« will appear on subscription cards.
